Looking for ways to give back to the orchestra? You’re in the right place!
Donations
The simplest way you can give back to the symphony is via direct donations. We have multiple ways to donate. Links to our Venmo and PayPal are in the footer below and cash is always accepted. You can also utilize social media to raise awareness of the symphony’s needs by sharing, making your own posts, or even starting fundraisers on sites like Facebook.
Volunteering Through Action
A sometimes overlooked way of giving back is by giving your time and participating in fundraising events. We organize several volunteer and social events for fundraising over the course of a year. Some of these require our members to volunteer to work an event and in exchange, our group will receive donations for their time (Oktoberfest). Other events just need our members to spread the word and get as many people to participate as possible (HamBingo).
The group also always has a need for volunteers internally. This includes things like helping out with instrument transport at concerts and manning the door at rehearsals. As the saying goes, many hands make light work.
Matching Donations
Matching donations is a great way to double the impact of any money you choose to donate to the symphony and for your employer to give back to causes their employees are passionate about.
What are matching donations?
Matching donations simply means that for every dollar that you donate, the matching company (your employer) will donate a second dollar. Your donation doubles in size without much extra work on your part. The symphony is also a non-profit, so both you and your employer can report your donations when you do your taxes.
How does it work?
Each company works a little differently, and the size, structure, and industry of your company could affect the matching donation process. Some employers may never have heard of donation matching, in which case this could be the first step in doubling all donations by employers at your company. If your employer already has a formal matching program in place, there is likely a minimum and maximum donation size, and eligibility may depend on if you are full-time or part-time.
Since each company is different, we can’t provide a one-size-fits-all guide to the process. You’ll want to talk with the leadership at your workplace and see if they can help guide you in the right direction. If you feel comfortable doing that on your own then great! If you’re looking for a little more guidance, we have a sample letter below that you are welcome to download and tweak as needed for your specific circumstances. In case your employer requires it, we also include a copy of the SSKC’s non-profit documentation below.
